“he Worshipful Company of Carpenters stands as one of the oldest and most respected Livery Companies in the City of London, with a proud history dating back to before 1271. Ranked 26th in order of precedence, the Company continues to blend its ancient traditions with a thoughtful and active role in modern civic life. Located at Carpenters’ Hall on Throgmorton Avenue, the Company’s premises are elegant and welcoming. The current Hall, the third on the site, was completed in the 1960s after wartime damage, and it harmoniously blends traditional Livery character with mid-20th-century design. Inside, visitors will find a collection of fine craftsmanship—naturally—alongside a sense of dignity, warmth, and continuity. The Hall is also regularly used for livery functions, charitable events, and civic gatherings, and it maintains a reputation for generous hospitality. At the heart of the Company’s ethos is its commitment to supporting the craft of carpentry and related trades. Through training, education, and apprenticeship programmes, the Carpenters’ Company fosters the next generation of skilled artisans. It also has longstanding links with The Building Crafts College, a respected institution under its patronage. Charitable giving is another key strand of its work. The Company supports numerous educational, social, and welfare causes, both within and beyond the City. Its quiet but effective philanthropy is one of its hallmarks. In ceremonial terms, the Carpenters’ Company plays a full and dignified part in the life of the City, upholding the traditions of the Livery while remaining outward-looking and relevant in a changing world.”

Another year, another Old School Dinner, this time at Carpenters Hall. Lunch was a Waldorf Salad Starter, an excellent Sirloin roast followed by a cheese course washed down with far too much red, but the company of old friends somehow makes this acceptable. Good service, good food, copious drink, great venue, Amazing friends. A winning combination.

Visited the Turners' Company exhibition. Remarkable talent on display with a fascinating recorder "concert" curated by a Professor from the Guildhall School of Music together with students.

Amazing building, oozing with history. How London's houses were built from wood . This building was burnt down in the great fire of London. This is how it stands today.
