“I cannot recommend this company at all. Two years ago, we contracted JM Construction (SW) to convert two flats in East London into a single house. We experienced long delays right from the start of the works. They used unskilled labour to carry out skilled works, such as repairing and re-pointing brick work and building partitions. The contractors they hired produced work well below a standard fit for purpose. For example, the roof was installed on top of rotting support joints, had the central drainage gulley set at the wrong angle which caused the water to pool, and the tiles were not fitted securely so came away easily. They made tile repairs using mastic glue - see photograph; the window contractor that JMC used to make the sash windows did not follow the specification provided – wrong wood and glass – and all the windows were too small. They tried to resolve the size problem by filling the gaps with expanding foam - see photograph; JMC installed steel supporting beams incorrectly and some were not even welded. We had the steel work checked by structural engineers. The report stated that the steel beams installed by JMC did not provide the required support and made the house highly dangerous. These were just three of the problems we faced from using JM Construction (SW). Others included installing water pipes made of plastic instead of copper as specified and paid for and installing them over un-rendered walls; installing electrical wiring below the level of the ceiling; building partition walls from un-rendered walls; and fitting multiple pieces of plaster-board to partitions leaving gaps throughout and installing the boards in rooms which were open to wet weather. We also paid in advance for items that were never supplied – staircase and sliding doors. We gave JM Construction (SW) a month to repair and proceed with works to an acceptable standard but they were unable to achieve this. Their work was so poor that we had to terminate their contract and are currently still in legal proceedings with the company.”

I would not recommend this company. We asked them to construct a large kitchen extension which did not meet our quality expectations in terms of quality of construction or finishing. Fact: We suffered structural damage to our first floor and new loft when they took out the rear wall without adequate planning or support of the wall. Our loft sliding door will no longer shut properly it is so far out of alignment.(Photo below). We have been quoted up to £15,000 to correct the issues in the loft including the structural cracking and window replacement. One structural engineer we discussed this with has suggested that the entire back wall of the property should be demolished and rebuilt to correct the issues. Fact: Without asking they used my ladders, trestles and even took railway sleepers from my garden all of which were returned damaged. Their staff and contractors also regularly used our garden as a toilet despite having a site loo. Fact: They broke our new Bifold Door which JM assured us he could install, but we had to get the supplier in to fix the broken glass and they found parts missing which we then recovered from the skip. Fact: The roof covering is delaminating and the roof leaks.(2x Photo below). The owner says he is a roofer by trade so this is shocking quality. Do your own research but I would not recommend. I include a photo of JM Construction offloading an 800kg Steel beam in the street by strapping it to a skip and driving the van away at speed. Utterly disgraceful. As a post script to my review I would add that we have held several face to face meetings with JM Construction and also written to them regarding the lack of resources, and quality of their work. They are fully aware of the issues. We are willing to provide photographs and CCTV images of any claims we have made. My advice is to do your own research such as look on companies house as to when the company was really formed don't just take their word for it.

Having done multiple building projects and extensions over the years we can’t recommend these guys enough. We did a fairly large building job with some unique requests, pouring concrete to make work tops, unique carpentry and complicated tiling. The job was done over lock down with many deliveries delayed - the team were calm, happy, stress free - Despite our frustrations and they got the job done. Not only great builders but their attitude makes them all easy to Work with and the whole experience felt exciting rather than frustrating which often building work leaves you feeling. Really well Priced and very fair.

We have only renovated our house once before and it didn’t go well. With JM Construction we felt ver my reassured and calm about the whole process. They kept us informed every step of the way with emails, pictures, phone calls and their online management tool so you can see the project live from your phone. Very good job! Thank you!
